Boys & Girls Clubs of Chattanooga Receives National Honor

By Contributed Article

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chattanooga have been serving local youth for 55 years, and one individual has been a part of this organization for 42 years. Michael Cranford, the BGCC Executive Director, was recognized for his work and dedication to young people, Thursday evening, May 31st, in New York City at the 104th National Conference of Boys & Girls Clubs of America when he received the Forty Years of Distinguished Service Award. This award presented to a member of The Professional Association of Boys & Girls Clubs, whose dedication, commitment and career achievements have significantly enhanced the Movement.

Upon receiving the award Cranford stated, “I am honored to receive this award, but the Boys & Girls Club has given far more to me than I have given to the movement. This has not been work or a job, helping our kids has been a mission—one that I have been glad to fulfill for the last 42 years.”

With four locations in the Chattanooga area, the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga provides programs for close to 3000 boys and girls, ages 6-18 in the areas of educational enhancement and career exploration, leadership skills and character development, drug and alcohol prevention, delinquency intervention, and health and fitness.
