Chattanooga Football Club, in only its second year of existence, will play in the NPSL Final Saturday night at Madison City Stadium at 8:30 EDT. The club defeated Madison 56ers from Madison, Wisconsin, last night by a score of 2-0 to earn the honor.
Chattanooga FC (7-0-2) will compete against Sacramento Gold (8-2-1), who won the NPSL Western Region. The Gold advanced to Saturday night’s final by defeating FC Sonic of Lehigh Valley, 4-1, with all four goals coming in the final 20 minutes of play.
The road to the finals for Chattanooga has been a little bumpy the last couple weeks. In preparation for the final regular season match, the club’s leading scorer, Chris Ochieng, was sidelined with a double-dislocation and fracture in his ankle. Team captain, Russell Courtney, joined Ochieng last Saturday when he tore his ACL and MCL in an exhibition match against DC United Reserves. The injuries didn’t seem to slow down the undefeated club.
“We had a great effort and result last night,” recalled Brian Crossman, coach of Chattanooga FC. “Our players’ collective competitiveness this year has been amazing. No matter the circumstances, they have played well and earned their spot in the championship game.”
The NPSL Final will begin at 8:30 EDT in Madison, AL. Admission is $10 per person.
